PROPOSAL FOR THE COMPUTER LAB

Proposal for the computer lab Dear Study Body, I think something should be done with the computer lab. I don’t have my own laptop so I have to do all my school work in the lab. Last time, it took me 2 hours completing my 30 minutes homework. I propose making a sign-up sheet so the students don’t have to wait for long. Also the available hours should be limited to one hour per student to provide equal and timely computer access for all students. I believe this policy would also relieve the problem of noisy students outside in the hall waiting for their turns to use the lab.

(Female) Did you read the letter about the computer lab?

(Male) Yes, it seems pretty reasonable, doesn’t it?

(Female) Well I'm not sure about the reasonable part. To tell you the truth, I actually don't agree with this idea.

(Male) What do you mean?

(Female) The first thing is the limited hours. I don't think one hour is enough. Sometimes, it takes me hours writing a paper. I spend a lot of my time doing the research and writing is not easy work to do.

(Male) If you need more hours you can come back though.

(Female) It'll be such a hassle for students to sign up on the sheet and come again later to get their projects done. It’s not efficient.

(Male) Now I see your point. But at least we don't have to hear the noise coming from the hall.

(Female) And that's the other thing. What happens if the person on the sign-up sheet shows up later than the person who's next on the list? They will probably argue about who is going to take the seat and this will bring even more noise into the lab.

(Male) I guess you're right. I never thought about it that way.

Introduction

The announcement says that some changes should be done about the working of the lab. These are to make a sign-up list and limit the hours of working with lab computers.

Examples

Two friends are discussing if it’s a good proposal or not. The woman’s opinion is that it’s is not a good idea. She gives a few reasons to support it.

First, she says that one hour is not enough to finish her writings. It usually takes her longer. Her friend offers her to come back if she has not finished the writing. But the lady says that it would be too complicated.

Second, she also doesn’t agree with the idea of reducing the noise out the doors by making a sing-up list. She thinks that it will cause even more troubles.

Conclusion

So that's why she doesn’t like the proposal.
