Общая информация о кошке:

Look at the picture. You can see a cat sitting on its four paws (1). It is a domestic cat. Cats are small, typically furry, and   carnivorous (2) mammals. They belong to Falidae Family and are a subspecies (3) of a forest cat, Felis Silvestris.

The cat in the picture looks really cute. Its fur is blue-gray. Its ears are pricked (4). The front paws are in front of it.

Cats have retracting (5) sharp claws (6) You can see its tail lying on the floor behind the body. Its whiskers are sticking out around its head. That makes it look even cuter. This breed of cat is called Russian Blue. It's a very popular breed not only in Russia but also outside it.

Now, there are about 600 million domestic cats in the world. There are about 200 breeds (7), from long-haired (Persian cat) to furless (Sphinxes).

Cats were domesticated about 9,500 years ago in the Middle East where ancient (8) human civilizations first appeared (9).

The average (10) body length of a cat without its tail is 60 cm. Tail length is 25-35 cm. As a rule, females are smaller than males. The largest cat, according to (11) the Guinness Book of Records, reaches a length of 121.9 cm.

The weight of an average cat is 2.5-6.5 kg, but there are also larger specimens (12), whose weight reaches (14) 7-9 kg. Breeds like the Siberian cat or Maine-Coon have a weight of 11.5-13 kg. Some cats can reach a weight of 20 kg. The heaviest recorded cat weighed 21.3 kg.

Cats’ children are called kittens.

Most scientists agree that the cat is a semi (14) - domesticated animal. Although the cat has genetically changed in comparison (15) with its wild ancestor (16) the difference is more than 10 times less than say, in dogs and wolves.
